Tip #1: Teach Letter Sounds
Most parents, when teaching their child to read, start with just the letter names. By teaching them both, the name and the sound at the same time, they will better make the connection and start reading faster.
Tip #2: From Left to Right
This may seem elementary but have you ever noticed how young children will skip around, they may look right, then left trying to figure things out for themselves. You as the parent teacher should instruct from left to right and top to bottom. Children were not born knowing this so instruct them in the correct method.
Tip #3: Final Consonant Blends
Teach final consonant blends first. Teaching words such “at” and “and” can lead your child directly to learning words that rhyme with these.
